USCCA18 – Part 2 The Eucharist: Source and Summit of Christian Life – U. S. Catholic Catechism for Adults w/ Arch. George Lucas

USCCA18 part 2 – Episode 18- The Eucharist: Source and Summit of Christian Life

Archbisop-George-LucasArchbishop Lucas offers insights on the US Catholic Catechism for Adults Chapter 18:

The consecrated bread has become Christ’s Body. The consecrated wine has become Christ’s Blood. Jesus Christ is substantially present in a way that is entirely unique. This happens by the power of the Holy Spirit through the ministry of the priest’s or bishop’s acting in the person of Christ during the Eucharistic Prayer. At Mass, when we are offered the Host and hear the statement “The Body of Christ,” we answer, “Amen,” that is, “Yes, I believe.”

The Most Reverend George J. Lucas leads the Archdiocese of Omaha.

Day 8st.-pio-8

From the writings of St. Pio:

Is it possible that you are never satisfied with yourself?  Jesus loves you with a loving partiality in spite of all your unworthiness.  He sends down a torrent of graces upon you, and yet you complain.  It is about time this ended and you convinced yourself that you are greatly in the Lord’s debt.  Hence, less complaints, more gratitude, and a great deal of thanksgiving.  You ought to ask Our Lord for just one thing: to love Him.  All the rest should be thanksgiving.

IP#286 Marcus Grodi – “Life from Our Land” on Inside the Pages with Kris McGregor

Marcus Grodi - "Life from Our Land" What a phenomenal book!  The “journey home” never looked more beautiful.  I didn’t want to put down “Life from Our Land: The Search for a Simpler Life in a Complex World”.  St. Benedict in the Holy Rule implores us to “listen with the ears of our hearts”.  Marcus Grodi, founder of the Coming Home International ministry and EWTN show host, shows us how it can be done.  So much more than just a spiritual memoir, Marcus offers us a road map we too could follow that leads from “the head to the heart.”  His writing is engaging, funny, and steeped in a warm humility…what a delight.  Rich spiritual fruit can be harvested from this book.

Our Lady of Sorrows

The Seven Sorrows  of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Virgin Mary, who believed in the word of the Lord, did not lose her faith in God when she saw her Son rejected, abused and crucified. Rather she remained beside Jesus, suffering and praying, until the end. And she saw the radiant dawn of His Resurrection. Let us learn from her to witness to our faith with a life of humble service, ready to personally pay the price of staying faithful to the Gospel of love and truth, certain that nothing that we do will be lost.

— Pope Benedict XVI, Angelus – September 13, 2009

Collect:

Father,
as Your Son was raised on the cross,
His mother Mary stood by Him, sharing His sufferings.
May Your Church be united with Christ
in His suffering and death
and so come to share in His rising to new life,
where He lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

ST-V5 – “Acts of the Apostles, Chapters 6 – 7 ” – Seeking Truth with Sharon Doran – Video Podcast

Sharon

In Acts 6-7, we first learn that the apostles were faced with the pastoral challenge of equitable distribution of food to the widows. Sharon goes on to give a beautiful teaching about God’s tender heart towards widows, as seen both in Old and New Testament stories. To solve this pastoral problem, the Apostles appointed the first deacons, an ordained ministry of the early Church, now revived by Vatican II by the Western Church. Stephen, one of the first deacons, was also the first martyr of the post-resurrection Church. Sharon gives a terrific overview of Stephen’s famous speech to the Sanhedrin. As we find out, the life of Christ is recapitulated in the Church, and the martyrdom of Stephen echoes the martyrdom of Christ: both are executed for the undeserved charge of blasphemy. Stephen’s death and our own sufferings were foretold by Christ: “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you (John 15:18-19).”

Sharon Doran serves as the teaching director of “Seeking Truth.” An experienced Bible Study teacher, Sharon has a passion for scripture that will motivate and challenge you to immerse yourself in God’s Word and apply His message to your every day life.

Seeking Truth” is an in depth Catholic Bible Study, commissioned by the Archdiocese of Omaha in response to John Paul II’s call to the New Evangelization as well as Pope Benedict XVI’s exhortation for all Catholics to study scripture. To learn more go to:www.seekingtruth.net
