Father Timothy M. Gallagher, O.M.V., was ordained in 1979 as a member of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary, a religious community dedicated to retreats and spiritual formation according to the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius.  Fr. Gallagher is featured on the EWTN series “Living the Discerning Life:  The Spiritual Teachings of St. Ignatius of Loyola”.

“Meditation and Contemplation: An Ignatian Guide to Prayer with Scripture”  is the book on which this series is based.  It is published by Crossroads Books.

   Peace Father Timothy,
   I am a 71 year old, yet spiritually young, gentleman who has been a practicing Catholic all my life. Yes the roads have been bumpy but I always kept the faith, and used the Sacraments to restore the graces from Our Lord.
   The reason I am commenting is to say and I am sure you know too, a lot of Catholics who just do not know enough about their faith, and prayer life except the very basics what they see in Church. They may not understand that Christ is in the Holy Eucharist, or go to the Sacraments as they should.
   For a number of years I studied the Life Principles Bible, of Rev. Charles Stanley. Though he does a magnificent job in his sermons, and meditations, it still lacked the Catholic completeness and Truths of the Church. So I began a comeback online for anything Catholic.
   Your website is particularly a true blessing. It is like sitting down in a room and learning different aspects of prayer and contemplation, using “baby steps”, and your descriptions and methods are prompting me to open that Bible, and trying the methods again. Oh, I tried them many years ago but like you said they were fruitless. Even praying the Liturgy of Hours now,(www.DivineOffice.org) my mind begins to want to go there, see what is written, and, hear what is being prayed, and my prayers have come back to life.
   Thank you for having these available for everyone, and I hope that many will give up a few TV Crime Detective shows, to sit with you, and all of us out here, to learn more about their faith. Then come back again.
